An empty folder does not always mean your documents are gone. You may have opened a different account, moved a file or deleted an item that was synchronised. Before trying multiple fixes, write down the document\u2019s name, usual location and the last time you used it.<\/p>\n
Open OneDrive through its official website and check which account is signed in. A personal account and a work account can contain very different folders. Search for part of the filename and check recent documents. If somebody shared the folder with you, ask whether they moved it or changed its sharing permissions.<\/p>\n
In OneDrive, open Recycle bin<\/strong>, select the missing file and choose Restore<\/strong>. Microsoft lists a 30-day retention period for personal accounts; work and school accounts have different rules. An online-only file may not appear in your computer\u2019s recycle bin. Once you recover the document, open it to check that it is the correct copy, then keep an independent copy of your important work.<\/p>\n Recovering a deleted file is different from retrieving an earlier version. In the latter case, look for the document\u2019s version history rather than deleting it. Save a copy of the current version before replacing it: you may still want to keep some of its recent changes.<\/p>\n Synchronisation also propagates deletions. Removing a document from the OneDrive folder may remove it from your online storage and other synchronised devices.
